On Friday 29th September, the Brixham College Sixth Form Charity Committee held their Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning, a cause close to the hearts of many within the college community.
They beat their previous record of £269 and raised an incredible £442 through cake sales, as well as £224 in online donations.
But it didn’t stop there; people across the community were encouraged to purchase a virtual cake for a £1 donation, which led to a whopping £530 being raised by people's generosity.
Collectively, the grand total came to an impressive £1,186.
Mr A Tailford, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, said the fundraiser has been outstanding.
He said: “This event has been a cause close to the hearts of many in our community. Issy, Melody, Trinity, Gabriella, Evelyn, Sienna, Jasmine and Samantha have been working hard for weeks in preparation for this event, encouraging people to donate cakes to sell, setting up an online fundraising page and asking for support from the local community. Their hope was to beat the previous record of £269 raised, and they did exactly that.
“On top of their achievements to raise money within the college, Issy and her mum - none other than our esteemed colleague and friend Mrs Bowden - put out a call to the people of Dartmouth asking them to buy a ‘virtual cake’ for £1. This led to a whopping £530 being raised by the generous people of Dartmouth alone.”
Elsewhere within our Trust, our central services teams in Portsmouth and Kent held their own Macmillan Coffee morning which collectively raised hundreds of pounds for the charity. Well done to all our schools and teams across the Thinking Schools Academy Trust for supporting this cause.
