Joining the Thinking Schools ‘Changed My Life’ says Carol who has relocated to the South East

Carol is the Head of Business and Operations for six of our schools based in Paignton, Devon. She began her journey at Thinking Schools Academy Trust working in Portsmouth, but chose to relocate to the South West for professional opportunities and a lifestyle change. Here is what she had to say about why.

What motivated you to apply for role of Head of Business and Operations at Thinking Schools Academy Trust?

My background in accounting and local government led me to the role in Portsmouth. Previously, I worked as a business manager at a primary school in Southampton for 12 years. When the opportunity at TSAT arose, I was drawn to the challenge of a new role within a trust, especially one focused on setting something up and innovating.

What intrigued you about working with a portfolio of schools and relocating from Portsmouth to the South West?

Working with a multi-academy trust offered the chance to expand my experience across various types of schools. The decision to relocate to the South West was influenced by personal ties and the opportunity Thinking Schools Academy Trust presented. My husband and I saw it as a chance to make an impact in a new area while embracing a different lifestyle.

How has your experience been working with schools under Thinking Schools Academy Trust management, and what sets them apart from others?

The people and their commitment to wellbeing and professional growth stood out. The schools welcomed me warmly, and their willingness to embrace change and push boundaries has been inspiring. There is a culture of listening, collaboration, and calculated risk-taking that fosters progress and innovation.

Their approach to teaching is something that stands out too. The tools teachers use in lessons prepare pupils to be lifelong learners, while the ethos is very much focused on being your best self.

In a nutshell, how would you describe your journey with Thinking Schools Academy Trust?

Supportive, inspiring, and challenging. TSAT has not only transformed my professional life but also enriched my personal experiences, leading to a deeper sense of community and fulfilment. It really has changed my life.

Why should someone consider joining Thinking Schools Academy Trust?

TSAT offers a supportive environment where individuals are encouraged to grow professionally. The trust values collaboration, innovation, and wellbeing, making it an exciting place to work and contribute positively to young lives and communities.

Joining the Trust has been a transformative journey for me, professionally and personally. The trust's values, collaborative spirit, and commitment to innovation have not only enhanced my career but also enriched my life beyond measure.
