On Monday 5th September Maritime Academy opened its doors for the first time to welcome their founding Year 7 cohort. This is the first Secondary School we have built and opened as a Trust, and we are hugely proud of the immense, collective effort from Teaching and Central staff to ensure this special day was a resounding success.
Maritime Academy’s mission statement is ‘Making Excellence a Habit’ and the transformative education offered will ensure students receive the best life chances possible.
As part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, Maritime Academy will inspire and enrich students through a cognitive approach to education that encourages focus and to consider our thinking. The displays of Hats, Maps and Keys within each classroom is a brilliant and apt reminder for students to get the most from the learning day.
‘I am immensely proud to be welcoming Year 7 Students, as Maritime Academy officially opens today. We seek to inspire a school community built on the foundations of Pride and Unity, and will instil a sense of personal Strength through perseverance and dedication, to ensure every student fulfils their potential. This is another step on our amazing journey, and I look forward to many more inspiring days as we continue to grow.’ – Mr Evans, Head of School

Maritime Academy pupils also received their personal one:one digital devices. Following on from the hugely successful pilot year at The Portsmouth Academy, Maritime embraces the future of education and the students were excited to receive their free devices which will become a key aspect of their daily learning routine.
Over the course of the day, there was a mixture of excitement and nerves amongst the students, however the support provided from their ‘Fleet Leaders’ and staff led a group of Year 7 students leaving the school happy, and enthused about the journey they have embarked upon at the school.
‘This is a landmark day for the Maritime Academy. A project years in the making; culminated in the achievement of opening to students. Maritime Academy will be a school full of opportunity and aspiration; the high standards we expect throughout the school will support students develop into high-achieving, respectful, well-rounded people. Thank you to the Trust, and our Central Solutions Team, for their support during this process, and congratulations to the staff of Maritime.’ – Mrs Murphy, Director of Education for the Strood Hub
