Paignton Academy unveils new 3G pitch surface

Students and the wider community at Paignton Academy are now enjoying a state-of-the-art 3G sports pitch, following the completion of a major resurfacing project.

This exciting upgrade is part of our continued investment in providing first-class facilities that inspire participation, pride, and wellbeing. It has been self-funded by Thinking Schools Academy Trust as part of our investment in capital projects to benefit the young people and communities we serve.

What was once a worn and weathered surface has been replaced with a vibrant, high-quality pitch that meets professional standards.

The upgrade includes new goals, boot brushes, and kickboards, enhancing both safety and performance.

Following last October's floodlight improvements, the facility has now undergone a full transformation, offering students a premium experience every time they step on the field.

The new pitch is more than just a sports facility. It represents our trust's child-first commitment to giving every learner the opportunity to thrive through active, healthy lives.

Whether it's football, rugby, or wider community use, this space brings people together and promotes the values of teamwork, perseverance, and aspiration.

"It’s the best pitch I’ve ever played on, it’s amazing" said Ronnie, a Year 7 student, whose excitement reflects the positive impact the new surface is already having.

Adam Smith, Head of PE at Paignton Academy, added: "We are extremely excited to utilise this fantastic facility both in lessons and beyond the classroom. The new pitch will have a hugely positive impact on engagement and skill development, helping students connect with our local sports clubs and take their talents even further."

Jonathan Brown from the Thinking Schools Academy Trust said: "This resurfaced 3G pitch is a fantastic asset for the school and also serves as a valuable hub for the wider community. It provides a safe, high-quality space for everyone to enjoy sport and physical activity."

The school warmly invite students, families, and residents to visit and experience the new 3G pitch at Paignton Academy.
