The Academy held the event to raise aspirations and broaden the horizons of young people in the South West, and encourage them to explore career opportunities within creative industries.
Plympton Academy welcomed schools from across the South West to network with a range of industry leaders, explore careers and opportunities available in creative industries, and engage with creative skills and demonstrations.
The event was held at the Academy’s Morpurgo Studios which boast specialist performing arts spaces and equipment, and was opened by Michael Morpurgo himself in 2018.
Unlock your Future was attended by Barbican Theatre, Ocean City Media, Arts University Plymouth, Beyond Face, Exim Dance and Falmouth University - creative organisations from a range of industries, who held stalls, workshops and speeches for the students
The afternoon included a variety of workshops, including Stop Motion Animation, Hapa Zome Art run by Falmouth University, a Musical Theatre workshop, and a Theatre and Comedy session run by the Barbican Theatre.
Students were also visited by Stephen Felmingham, Pro Vice Chancellor of Arts University Plymouth, who delivered an inspiring talk on the future of creative careers in the South West and beyond.
Lisa Boorman, Principal of Plympton Academy, said: “It was wonderful to welcome schools and organisations from across the South West to our Unlock your Future event at Plympton Academy. It was a truly brilliant day, with a variety of exciting workshops and stalls on offer for the students to engage with and explore. Our young people of the South West deserve as many opportunities as possible to raise their aspirations, explore different career paths and be inspired, and we were proud to offer an opportunity for just that at our event.”
Well done to Plympton Academy on a fantastic first event!
