Teachers recognised at citywide Teach Portsmouth awards event

A Portsmouth-based awards event for teachers, support staff and leaders from schools across the city has recognised staff from the Thinking Schools Academy Trust for their good work.

The event that took place in June, recognises educational excellence from across the community.

Sam Phelps from Penbridge Junior School and Lily Bodkin from The Portsmouth Academy were shortlisted for the Early Career Teacher Award, Christine Turner at Meon Way Federation was shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution Award, and several others were nominated for the Long Service Award.

Congratulations to Hannah Powell of New Horizons Primary School for winning the People's Choice Award, and to Emilie Howard Angreville of The Portsmouth Academy for winning the Teacher and Learning Support Award.

Speaking of their win, Hannah said it was humbling to hear about the fantastic things happening across Portsmouth at the awards.

She said: “The event was absolutely fantastic and it was such a humbling experience to listen to all the fantastic things happening across the city. I was chosen by the panel to win the People’s Choice award which was an incredible feeling.

“I was completely blown away to be nominated in the first place, and then to be shortlisted and to win was fantastic. Thank you to all the members of the community that nominated teachers across the city, because we all do such a great job every day and it’s all about making that difference to children.”

Reacting to winning the Teacher and Learning Support Award, Emilie Howard Angreville said:

“I still can’t believe I won the award. It took me a few seconds to realise it was my name on the screen as the winner. I am very proud and thought of my students straight away.

“It wasn’t just me that won; it was them too. It’s a victory for me but also for The Portsmouth Academy and everyone I am working with.”
