A group of Year 9 students represented The Victory Academy in a Touch Rugby Competition on Wednesday 1st May 2024. These 10 students participated in Touch to Twickenham, a fun and inclusive national programme to drive non-contact participation in schools and colleges in England.
The free event is open to students in Year 9, Year 12, and Year 13 mixed gender teams, with 8-a-side teams having a minimum of 4 female students on the pitch at all time.
The students in attendance; Josiah, Amir, Elliot, Joshua, Beneti, Joel, Amina, Ashly, Nicoleta, and Jessica, did themselves and the school proud by playing with tremendous heart, demonstrating excellent team spirit and camaraderie.
A special mention goes to Elliot, who captained the team and received praise from the referees for his positive motivation and energy. Many of the students had never played rugby before and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
A highlight of the day was when the students had the unique opportunity to meet and greet Shaunagh Brown, an International England Red Rose Rugby Player, who supported and refereed some of the games.
Well done to everyone involved! Results are currently pending, but regardless, your hard work and sportsmanship shine brightly.
