The Bar Mock Trial Competition is designed to help young people, aged 15 to 18 years old, understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, thus gaining insight into how the legal justice system works.
Throughout the process, students are encouraged to think critically and build arguments while having the opportunity to interact with legal professionals. The competition helps to develop students’ employability skills and a sound knowledge and understanding of the role of law and the justice system in our society.
The students have been preparing for the competition since mid-November, picking apart two hypothetical trials and then arguing for either the prosecution or defence against other competing schools in Kent. The heats took place at the University of Kent in front of real judges.
Through hard work, determination, and carefully thought out cases, the team from Rochester Grammar came away victorious, being awarded the title of Bar Mock Trial Regional Heat Winner 2023.
This is a phenomenal achievement for the students and the first step toward the National Final, which takes place at the Old Bailey later this year.
A huge congratulations to every member of the team!
Next stop, the National competition at The Old Bailey!
